Alentejo with Love: A Story of Passion and Renewal

Tavira Quintinha da foz

In 2012, we left our successful careers in Lisbon—me as a marketer and António as an IT engineer—and traded urban hustle for a love of the land.

I fell in love with António's dream of revitalizing the family farm in Tavira, a special place with a country house nestled on 3 hectares of land with olive, almond, and fig trees.

Since I met António, he had talked about early retirement, restoring the house that once belonged to his grandparents, and bringing life back to the land.

Though initially hesitant to leave city life in Lisbon, I decided to follow my heart and embrace this new adventure with him.

With much love and dedication, we rebuilt the house and eventually turned it into a guest house where visitors could experience the essence of the farm.

Over nine years, many guests chose our farm for their vacations. The family atmosphere, our humble yet warm presence, along with our five dogs, made the farm a very special place.

Many of our guests became close friends and regular customers, contributing to a consistent 9.7/10 rating on Booking.com.

With only two accommodations available, the atmosphere was private and cozy, conveniently located near the sea.

Breakfast was prepared with fresh, homemade products and served every morning in the garden overlooking the orchard and next to the pool. The quality of our breakfast was recognized by Booking.com as the best in Tavira for nine consecutive years.

In 2018, António's diagnosis of a rare and severe tumor made him rethink his life priorities. After three years of treatment and a tough battle against the illness, he realized the importance of enjoying life more fully.

The decision to leave the Algarve and seek an even simpler lifestyle in closer contact with nature wasn't difficult.

Although we left behind a dream and a successful business, we carried with us precious memories of those years rich in experiences, where so many stories of love and friendship were lived and shared.

Where we would go next was a matter of chance.

While looking for a place to buy a weekend home in the Alentejo, we passed through the village of Aldeia do Campinho. As we left the village, we "stumbled upon" the property that would become our new acquisition.

This move marked a new chapter in our lives in an Alentejo filled with love, where a story of passion and renewal continues to be written.
